Journey Forward
Do you ever have moments where you feel like you've lost all motivation, a time when you feel like you're going through the motions, but you just feel like you're standing still? At times we look around at everything in our lives and understand we have so much to be thankful for but we still feel like we haven't reached our full potential. There are so many things I want to do with my life, yet I sometimes find myself feeling so stuck in the every day motion. I picture this feeling looking like an image where someone is standing in the middle of a busy downtown street and everything around them is just flying by in a blur. Like I want to jump on one of the passing vehicles that's in a hurry to get somewhere, but instead I just stand there in the middle of the blur and try so aimlessly to take a step forward. I think many of us has at times wondered if there is more, yet we just stay planted. We stay stuck in our motions because they are safe and easy. But what if we decided to just move, even if it's ever so slightly? What if we decided to keep searching for our purpose until we know that we've found it?
We become so used to our ordinary that we forget what it was that we truly wanted for ourselves. We let outside noise make us believe that we aren't capable of doing anymore than what we do. We get caught up in someone else's idea of success and we lose sight of what success looks like to us. There are so many different ideas of success and each one is unique to the person who feels it. Some people see success as materialistic things, some view success as how much money they have, some view it as the rank in their career, others might see success as the old van they redid with their own money that allows them to sleep next to the beach while they work on the pier as the ultimate life. The lack of motivation in our lives comes from living someone else's idea of success. We begin to feel stuck. We worry what others will think if our house isn't the right size, or our cars aren't new. True freedom comes when we learn to not care what anyone else thinks and create our own path for our life.
Fear is a crazy thing. Such a small little four letter word, but it carries so much weight. We become afraid to take risks, to speak up when we feel belittled, to live a life that others might not view as successful. We become scared of our journey forward. We all have made mistakes, but we have to get up. We have to decide what success looks like to us and we have to move. We have to take the first step, then the next, then the next until we find what brings us peace and happiness. We have to learn to do this and not worry what others think. I promise you, when you are taking your last breath here on earth you aren't going to be worried about what so and so thinks anymore, you are going to be sad that you didn't take the chances that would have made you happy. I don't know about you, but I don't want to reach the end of my life and look back with sadness. I challenge you today to take the chance that could change your life. Have faith and take the leap. And as always, Journey Forward.
